The group is part of the Manchester and High Peak Area of the Ramblers' Association. The whole area includes many regions of excellent, scenic walking country and is also within easy access of the Peak District, the Lake District, North Wales and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks. Currently we have about 300 members and new members are always welcome.

We have a varied programme of walks.
WEEKEND WALKS include - Coach Rambles organised for the first Saturday of each month. Shorter Local Footpath Walks, 4-5 miles, using the wealth of footpaths in the Bolton area are organised on the second Sunday of each month. Longer local walks of between 9-12 miles on the 3rd weekend of the month.
MID-WEEK WALKS - each Thursday starting from Horwich Leisure Centre, 4-5 mile walks. On the 3rd Thursday of the month a car ramble. Monday/Tuesday Walks using public transpot, 6-7 miles. Summer evening walks, 5 miles.
EVENTS and PROJECTS - we particapate in local events and other Rambler activities, and undertake projects that we feel will benefit fellow walkers in the Bolton area.

Our Footpath Liaison officer works with the Bolton MBC to scrutinize all planning applications in which there are issues with the local Rights of Way. The Ramblers Association is committed to keeping these open, and in good condition. The Bolton Ramblers Group organise a monthly maintenance programme for footpaths in the Bolton area.
